A great fish

A great fish

Jonah 1:17 “Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.”

Fleeing from God’s will for his life, Jonah is on a ship to Tarshsish.

God sends a great wind, battering the ship.

The crew on board, in an effort to discover why this storm has come upon them, casts lots.

When the lot fell on Jonah, he confessed that he was runnning from the One True God.

To save their own lives, they throw Jonah overboard. But this is only the beginning of his worries.

Beyond the danger and difficulty of storm and open sea, God has prepared a fish to swallow Jonah.

It is this very unusual trial that God will use to get his servant back on track. To turn Jonah from his rebellion and point him back in the direction of Nineveh.

Nineveh is the place God wanted Jonah to be, so he could cry against that city because of their sin.

It is the ministry of Jonah that God would use to turn the people of Nineveh to Him.

I wonder what ministry God intends for us? Will we proceed willingly and have to go by way of a great fish?
