All these things

This audio devotional, based on Matthew 13:34-35, is focused on the parables of Jesus. They were an effective teaching tool and a fulfillment of prophecy.

All these things

Matthew 13:34-35 “All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.”

A parable is a simple story that teaches a more profound spiritual lesson.

In this context, as in many others in His ministry, Jesus is speaking to the people in parables.

He speaks this way, not only because it is an effective way of teaching, but because it is a direct fulfillment of prophecy.

Psalm 78:2 said He would open His mouth in a parable and utter dark sayings of old.

People familiar with the scriptures in Israel would finally come to grips with their meaning. If not at this moment, as Jesus’ ministry continued and He died and rose from the dead.

He reveals the meaning of some parables Himself in Matthew. We understand others because we have the privilege of having access to the completed scriptures.
