And none spake a word

And none spake a word

Job 2:13 "So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great."

After hearing about the calamities that have befallen Job, three of his friends arrive to mourn with him and to comfort him.

It's good to have friends in moments of difficulty. It's even better to have friends who show up when times are tough.

When these friends saw Job from a distance and didn't recognize him , they wept, tore their robes, and put dust on their heads.

Then they simply sat with him on the ground for seven days and seven nights. None of them said a word.

Their example can be a lesson to us. For friends in these circumstances we should often: show up, cry with them, sit with them, spend time with them, and don't speak.

When friends say too much, as we'll see later in this book, it can make many things worse.

I wonder if we have friends, or are the kind of friends, that just show up and sit quietly?

Are we ready to mourn with others? And comfort them?
