Fishers of men

Jesus told Peter and Andrew, in Matthew 4:19-20, that He would make them fishers of men. This audio devotional has more about the concept and its meaning.

Fishers of men

Matthew 4:19-20 "And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him."

Jesus began His ministry calling disciples to follow Him.

He said something extraordinary here to Peter and Andrew - that He would make them fishers of men.

These brothers caught fish for a living. In fact, they were casting a net into the sea at the very moment Jesus called them.

So, they knew something about fishing. But this kind of fishing would be different.

As followers of Jesus, which they clearly became at this moment, even leaving behind their nets, they would be part of a great effort to gather additional followers.

As they get to know Him, watching His ministry unfold, seeing Him after His resurrection, and more - they will proclaim who He is and what He has done.

And carry out a ministry to fill their nets with new disciples, who will fill their nets with new disciples.

But they had to leave all and follow Him. That's the only way they could become fishers of men.

Jesus would equip them and empower them to do it. And He still equips and empowers all that follow Him today.

Matthew 4:19-20 "And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him."
