He was wounded

Isaiah 53:5 is referring to one person. The only person that ever died in our place and for our sins. Jesus is the focus of this text and audio devotional.

He was wounded

Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

This is referring to one person in history. The only one who ever died in our place and for our sins - Jesus.

He was punished for what we did. He was crushed, not for His own guilt, but for ours.

Justice required this punishment. And He took it.

What's more, He took it voluntarily. No one was capable of taking His life. He laid it down.

And the sacrifice Jesus made was sufficient to pay the penalty for every man's sin.

By embracing Him, in faith, we can have peace with God. But the peace could only, ever come, because of what He did.

We would remain in our sins, remain at war with God, continue our travel on the broad road leading to destruction without Him.

The sin-sick souls of men could never be healed, without the wounds He endured on our behalf.

This passage and many others make it clear.

Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."
