In their own eyes

In their own eyes

Proverbs 30:11-12 “There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.”

It seems there is always a group of people, often within a similar age group, that have a problem with authority.

If not all authority, at least they have a problem with their parents.

They go as far as cursing their fathers. That is, they show contempt for or despise their fathers.

And their mothers, who deserve to be blessed, are not. This is the equivalent of cursing – or it might as well be cursing.

We have a potential reason for this behavior in the second verse. These people are pure in their own eyes. But they are deceived.

We know this, because it says, they are not washed from their filthiness.

When anyone sees themselves as perfect and good, when they obviously are not, they have a tendency to see others as bad and wrong.

This out-of-control pride is terrible for individuals and terrible for society.

Let’s not be part of this prideful generation.

Proverbs 30:11-12 “There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.”
