My redeemer liveth
My redeemer liveth
Job 19:25-26 “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:”
Added to Job’s numerous and difficult hardships in life are persistent accusations from his friends. But he doesn’t lose hope.
He knows his flesh will eventually return to dust.
But He also understands God’s character, and it appears, God’s plan for sending a Redeemer in the future.
Old Testament saints looked forward for deliverance, while we look back, Jesus having already come to save us.
That appears to be what is happening here. As Job declares without hesitation that he will see God, because of the his Redeemer. One that will stand on the earth in latter days.
This hope gives him the ability to press on in trial, to endure accusation, and to persevere to the end.
If he could do so, looking ahead with expectation, we can certainly do so, looking back at a historically verified Christ.
We have reason for hope no matter what we face. Our Redeemer lives and we can live forever with God.
