Prepare ye the way

Matthew 3:3 quotes the prophet Isaiah regarding John the Baptist. And as this audio devotional explains, John spent his life pointing others to the Savior.

Prepare ye the way

Matthew 3:3 “For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.”

There are many prophecies fulfilled in these first three chapters of Matthew. This one, regarding John the Baptist.

He was sent before the Messiah, to prepare the way.

He would go about, even as it is recorded in this chapter, proclaiming the good news of our Savior’s arrival.

Jesus would say during His ministry, later in Matthew 11, that among those born of women, there was none greater than John the Baptist.

But John said Jesus was mightier than he, and that he was not even worthy to carry Jesus' shoes.

John had a special assignment, coming as a witness. Pointing all men to Christ, that they might believe.

The prophet Isaiah said as much, and that is exactly what happened.

The truth of scripture confirmed in the life and work of John and the truth of John's testimony proven in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.

Matthew 3:3 “For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.”
