Sound words
Sound words
II Timothy 1:13-14 “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.”
The Apostle Paul challenges Timothy to hold fast to that which he has been taught.
He calls those teachings “sound words.” They are Biblical instructions from the Apostles that set the hearer on firm ground and give them solid footing in a shaky world.
For Timothy, a pastor, they form the doctrinal base upon which his ministry can be built.
We are privileged to have finished copies of the scripture in our hands today. These are the comprehensive sound words we cling to.
It will also be necessary for us to lean on the power of the Holy Spirit to observe them.
Christ has given us everything we need to be successful. Our daily task is to know Him better through the scriptures.
He promised to set us apart by truth. God’s word is truth.
Are we holding fast to this truth, by faith?
