That I may build it
Nehemiah 2:5 "And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it."
King Artaxerxes notices the sad countenance of Nehemiah as this chapter begins.
Nehemiah describes the ruin of Jerusalem and the king asks, esentially, what Nehemiah wants him to do.
Before responding, Nehemiah prays to the God of heaven. And then he makes his request in this verse.
There are documents Nehemiah needs to enter other territories on his way to Judah. He needs timber to help with the rebuilding.
His close relationship with the king makes obtaining these things possible.
God has arranged Nehemiah's life in such a way that makes some very specific things available to him.
Nehemiah knows this is the case. And he says "the good hand of my God was upon me."
We may have no idea why God places us in certain circumstances. It could be that they will contribute directly to our success in His mission.
The kind of mission to which Nehemiah is assigned in this book.
