That is wisdom
That is wisdom
Job 28:28 “And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”
Job is speaking again in this chapter. He is discussing men and their (often fruitless) search for wisdom.
He says men ask where wisdom comes from. And where they can find understanding.
Job says that men find all manner of treasure by mining in the earth, but that wisdom and understanding are more valuable than all of those treasures.
It is only God that can provide wisdom, according to Job.
He is the One that sees and knows all. That makes the wind blow, that decided how big to make the oceans, that sends rain and makes thunderstorms blow over.
The Lord was kind enough to tell men that wisdom is fearing the Lord, and that turning away from evil is understanding.
Men that learn this have greater treasure than any that can be pulled from the ground.
Job is no doubt speaking from experience. He is described to us as a man “that feared God, and eschewed evil.”
This makes him a wise – and therefore wealthy – man. We should be thankful for his example and for his reminder here.
