That we know him

That we know him

I John 2:3-4 “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”

Much of the religious world believes we gain favor with God by keeping His commandments. The Bible teaches something very different.

It teaches that we come to know God through faith in Jesus Christ. It then describes the behavior that characterizes those who know Him as obedient.

Salvation is obtained through what Christ did, never through what we do. And all the commandment-keeping in the world is useless for securing a place in heaven.

But the person that knows God has the Holy Spirit living within. We understand what it was like to be dead in trespasses and sins.

What we want has changed. Our mission is different. We are thankful. And we want to please God.

This is why we keep His commandments and follow His instructions. He is our master and we are committed to following Him.

If a person claims to know Him, but refuses to follow Him, it’s clear something is wrong.

I John 2:3-4 “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”
