The part of a kinsman

The part of a kinsman

Ruth 3:13 “Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman’s part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.”

When Ruth comes to Boaz at the threshing floor, he speaks to her knowing she is a virtuous woman.

And everything that happens in this exchange and those that follow is done with integrity.

While Boaz is a near kinsman, meaning it was right and proper that he marry Ruth, there is a nearer kinsman who can also take this responsibility.

They speak in the next chapter, Boaz asking the man that he buy the property left to Naomi. And that he marry the widow of Elimalech’s son to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

They agree Boaz should instead purchase the property and marry Ruth.

Boaz and Ruth would continue the family lineage, from which eventually, one Jesus would be born.
