Then Job arose

Then Job arose

Job 1:20-21 “Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”

Satan has been given freedom by God to afflict Job. And a terrible series of events have now changed Job’s life forever.

We read what happened in preceding verses. All of his animals and most of his servants have been killed or taken. And his children, who were all eating together, died when the eldest brother’s roof collapsed.

These verses record what Job did just after hearing news.

Whatever feelings pressed upon him in these moments, instead of allowing them to overwhelm him – he worshipped.

He had the clarity of mind, surely amidst excruciating pain, to bless God and recognize reality.

I wonder how many of us are walking closely enough with God to even imagine such a reaction in these circumstances?
