Treasures upon earth

Matthew 6:19-20 "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:"

For believers in Jesus Christ, the only way to obtain treasures in heaven is to walk closely with Him every day.

We must surrender to His will, develop the character traits that please Him, and carry out the ministry He requires of His disciples.

Not only is this our only path to freedom and peace, the fruit it produces is the only fruit that lasts.

Traveling our own path may lead some of us to a few extra dollars. Perhaps just enough to buy a few more possessions.

But those possessions will only satisfy for a while, and we'll need more.

They will rust, they will break down, someone will take them from us. They are always temporary, and so is any happiness they may bring.

I wonder if we are living and working with a long-term view? Setting our focus on fruit that will remain.
