Woe to them
Woe to them
Isaiah 31:1 "Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!"
Isaiah comments here on the impending invasion of Judah by the Assyrians. And the pressure that was building to make a military alliance with Egypt.
But those in Judah who feared the worst - that they would be destroyed like the northern kingdom - were looking in the wrong place for help.
The mighty Assyrians would not be defeated by the horses, horsemen, and chariots of Egypt.
God's people must not place their faith in men, no matter how numerous and mighty.
They need only look to the Lord of Hosts, who fights on Israel's behalf.
No great world power in history has, no mighty nation in the present can, no assembly of armies in the future ever will stand against Him.
And no people, who claim Him as their God should fail to acknowledge the Holy One of Israel - especially at a moment of fear and crisis.
Isaiah 31:1 "Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!"
